Alpha Cradle brand products have been an important part of successful radiation therapy treatment since 1981. Our goal at Smithers Medical Products, Inc. is to provide radiation therapy/oncology students the opportunity to learn about the importance of immobilization and repositioning during the treatment process.

Immobilization is critical because the patient must remain motionless during treatment. Any movement at all can mean less radiation to the targeted mass, and more collateral damage to the patient.

Repositioning is critical because the patient must be in the exact same position each and every time they come in for their radiation therapy treatment.

Teaching program administrators can sign up to take part of the SMP student education program. Sign up is easy and the cost is gratis, courtesy of Smithers Medical Products, Inc. Simply contact the president of the company, Jeffrey Kostich, and send along the start date for your class, the number of students enrolled, and the approximate date of the labs scheduled for your immobilization workshops. SMP will provide a copy of the Bentel book, “Patient Positioning and Immobilization in Radiation Oncology,” for each student, and a sample Alpha Cradle form for every two students in class. This will allow one student to serve as the patient and one student to serve as the therapist for each form provided.
