Troops
Our favorite cause is supporting the troops serving in Iraq & Afghanistan. SMP provides care packages and letters each month to each soldier on our list for their duration of service overseas, until they come home. The president of SMP, Jeffrey Kostich, sends personal letters and packages each month during the soldier’s tour. To date, every soldier he has sent letters and packages to has come home. Jeffrey’s wife, Kathy, has selflessly taken most of those packages to the post office herself, personally making sure they get sent quickly and securely to each soldier.
SMP also provides requested supplies to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, and Walter Reed Medical Center, located in Washington, D.C. Over the past 8 years, we have sent thousands of care packages. With these packages we have sent thousands of boxes of Girl Scout Cookies, tens of thousands of Slim Jims, and countless other American favorite cookies, crackers, candies, gum, beef jerky, and thousands of different popular American magazines. We have filled every request from soldiers, from white socks to Surefire flashlights to rolls of fly paper, baby wipes, batteries and everything in between!
Care Packages
Since 2003, SMP has sent cards, letters and care packages to soldiers serving in Iraq &Afghanistan. Girl Scouts came in and hand decorated boxes filled with Girl Scout cookies for the troops. SMP has also sent giant 2 lb. chocolate bars for the troops. SMP sends a care package and personal letter every month until the soldier returns.

Good Friends & Family
Smithers Medical Products especially loves to support the loved ones of local friends, employees, and families who are serving so selflessly in Iraq & Afghanistan to defend our freedom and security. Several members of the Armed Forces have made visits to SMP to meet Jeffrey and thank him for the letters, cards and packages that were sent to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Executive Director of the Northeast Ohio USO thanks Jeffrey for donating use of his building to be used as a care package facility. Radio & TV personality Glenn Beck visits SMP to thank Jeffrey & Kathy for donating use of their building to the USO; it serves as one of the largest care package distribution centers to the troops overseas in the United States.
When units have a hard time, SMP has sent party kits to bolster spirits of our troops who are serving in harm’s way. SMP sent fiesta party supplies to soldiers giving them a much needed break from their assignments in Iraq.

Corporal Bigham visits SMP to thank Jeffrey for the care packages. Corporal Bigham is a purple heart recipient who risked his life for his fellow soldiers and was wounded by a hand grenade that exploded in his face.
